The Page lab is dedicated to promoting undergraduate research experiences and is heavily involved in facilitating the CSMC’s Sustainable Materials and Research Training (SMaRT) Camp program. Run primarily by CSMC student and post-docs, this week long SMaRT Camp is designed to teach students the basic chemistry and laboratory skills they need to be successful in a subsequent 10-week research program in a CSMC research lab.
The Page lab is also heavily involved in public outreach efforts, working with the CSMC Informal Science Education program and the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) in Portland to develop hands-on demonstrations to explain metal oxide thin film chemistry to the public. The Page group’s most recent demo, “Sweet Films,” uses colored sugar cubes to show how metal nitrate salt precursors can be transformed into sugar “sweet films” through solution-deposition methods.
